Gym Jitters are the fears that stop many people from starting and continuing their journey to fitness. A recent article at Fitbe talked about these fears. Here are the top 10 fears that were reported and my response to these fears. This month, I will talk about the first 5 reasons. Next month, Ill talk about the remaining 5.
1. I can't due a single pushup.
Chill Says: Don't worry about it. Pushups are just one exercise. Remember that the body is a system. Once you begin to work on other areas, your body "tunes" up and makes it easier to do other exercises. Besides, I can help you start out with some simple upper body exercises that can help you do push-ups.
2. I don't want to get bulky.
Chill Says: Most of these complaints come from women or golfers. The Fitbe article rightly points out that women do not produce enough testosterone to make you bulk up. If you are a golfer, I can help you with tone and flexibility which are critical to getting those extra few yards on a Par 5 drive.
3. I don't have time to get the results.
Chill Says: I can understand, we are all busy people. Consider this, I can teach you how to get the most of your workouts. I can show you ways to workout within a 30 minute time period, (and that's with commercials). Besides, you will feel better after the workout and get more out of the remaining 23 1/2 hours in your day, and that includes better sleep.
4. I'm going to get hurt on the treadmill.
Chill Says: Treadmills are one option. Elliptical Bikes, Rowing Machines, and other machines can also be used. Fitbe recommends that you start out slow and only use treadmills in the manual mode because many of the programs available on treadmills can suddenly "kick-in" and throw you off the belt. I also recommend getting a good pair of walking or running shoes and MAKE SURE your shoe laces are tied snugly and that they don't hang down under the sole of your shoes.
5. I'll get bored.
Chill Says: That's where I come in. I will definitely keep variety into your workouts. Variety is necessary because it allows different areas of your body to recover after you are finished with the workout. So, contact me and we can help shed that fear of workout boredom.
Next month I will give you my opinions on the remaining five fears of gyms. Until then...
