One of the things I see with some of my clients is the guilt brought on by, shall we say, overdoing it with food over the holidays. We gain a few pounds, the clothes that we got for Christmas don't fit. (Irony).
Don't worry about it. We all suffer a few pounds of weight gain from holiday eating. By the way, have you noticed how many people are sick? This all comes from the reduced immunity caused from the acids and excessive carbohydrate intake from the past 3 weeks. All of this creates a state of sluggishness and sometimes despair.
So, how do you overcome the "blah" feeling? You get up and move!
You might be saying: "Chill, I'm in so shape to get in shape... I'm sick, lack energy, and don't have the motivation to drag myself into your studio." In a word, these are excuses we tell ourselves to avoid what we really need to do. It is also coming from a place of guilt and depression because you are facing another year of weight gain and poor physical shape.
Look, I once weighed over 300 pounds! All I can tell you is to just "Chill." Here are some first steps you can take to get to the new you in 2011.
1. Cut down on your carbs. I'm not saying to give carbs up. Just consume more foods like vegetables and fruits instead of the danishes, breads, and pastas. Increase your water and fiber intake to flush out your system. You will begin to get some energy back and avoid the ups and downs of your blood sugar level. Now that we have started on the food side....Next....
2. Begin a walking program. Get a good pair of walking shoes and walk at a brisk pace for 10 minutes. Increase your time by 5 minute increments until you get to at least 30 - 45 minutes of walking. Don't have a treadmill and don't want to walk outside? Go to a local mall. Better yet, see if the mall has a walking club. Many do.
3. Begin moderate weight training. You don't have weights at the house? No Problem! Get yourself two, 1 gallon empty milk jugs and fill them with water. Begin lifting them with the jug half full if it is too much weight. Make sure the lid is on securely! You can also add calisthenics exercises to liven up your routine.

Follow these first 3 steps for 30 days....Then, follow step 4:
4. Get a personal trainer. I can help you set goals for 2011 that will help you look and feel your best!
Until next time,
Chill James
